Act 4: A Gathering Storm
Act 4 is short, only six quests, but it has one of the most famous bosses in the series. It also gives you your horse.
- Prying the Eye: meet Lorath at the Forsaken Chapel in Kehjistan and speak with Taissa inside. Place the Sightless Eye where the quest marker shows. You learn you need help from an old ally in Kyovashad.
- A Master's Touch: go back to Kyovashad and meet Donan. Around this point the urgent quest Mount: Donan's Favor also appears. Do it right away: Donan sends you to the stable master, who gives you a free horse. Mounts then unlock for your other characters on the same realm too.
- Lost Arts: visit the Horadric Vault to find the knowledge the group needs.
- A Meeting of the Minds: return to the Forsaken Chapel and plan the next step with your allies.
- Anguish Incarnate: travel to The Blasted Scarp and defeat Andariel.
- Eye of the Storm: head back to the Forsaken Chapel to close out the act.
Boss: Andariel, Maiden of Anguish
Andariel is fast and aggressive. She is also a boss you can fight again in the endgame, but the campaign version is far easier. Guides online often describe the harder endgame fight, so do not panic if you read about mechanics you never see.
- She covers the floor with dangerous effects. Move out of them at once, even if it costs you some damage.
- Her attacks can stack a debuff on you. Do not stand still and trade hits. Step in, hit, step out.
- Later in the fight she gets faster and adds new moves. Keep your dodge ready for her charges.
- If she summons objects or helpers in the arena, kill them fast, since they make the fight harder the longer they live.
- Fill your potion before you go in. A full potion stack is the best "resistance" you can bring.

Act 5: Secrets Bartered, Fates Sold
Act 5 is set in Hawezar, a dark swamp full of snakes, witches and plague. The hub town is Zarbinzet. The act is long and branches early, so it helps to know the shape before you start.
Opening
- The Path Divided: meet your allies in Zarbinzet and talk to Taissa and Donan. The group splits up, and you pick which lead to follow first. You will do both.
Branch 1: Secrets of the Zakarum
- Secrets of the Zakarum, Entombed Hatred and Swamp Hospitality: work with Donan to dig into old Zakarum secrets.
- Witch of the Wastes: find the witch Valtha in the Cinder Wastes and bring Donan the item he needs. This leads to a fight with Valtha.
- Encumbered Mind and The Cage of Grief: finish Donan's thread.
Branch 2: Tainted Flesh
- Tainted Flesh and Wrack & Ruin: travel with Lorath and Neyrelle and look into the plague spreading across the swamp.
- Cold Blood: defeat Mohlon, the Snake Queen.
The Serpentine Path
Once both branches are done, the story joins up again.
- Dirge of the Mire and The Slow, Beating Heart: you speak with the Tree of Whispers, a strange power in the north-east of Hawezar that trades secrets for a price.
- A Cold and Lifeless Shore and Picking Through the Bones: save Neyrelle, then inspect a coffin to move the story on.
- Beneath the Wine-Dark Sea: uncover Elias's secret inside an old temple, clear away his echoes, and escape as the water rises. Move quickly in the last part.
- Fragments of Mortality: burn the relic you found and speak with Neyrelle.
Conclusion
- On the Precipice: follow Donan and Taissa into the Black Tomb of Sankekur and face Elias.
- Knee-Deep in Filth: chase Elias through the Plaguemarsh and finish him for good. Some sites spell this quest "Knee-Deep in Faith"; it is the same final quest.
Bosses: Valtha and Mohlon
Both are mid-act fights. Valtha uses witch magic and ground effects, so keep moving and watch the floor. Mohlon is a big serpent queen. Stay out of the front of her body when she winds up, clear any snakes that join in, and hit her from the side.
Boss: Elias, Fallen Horadrim
Elias is a mage, not a brawler. He uses blood magic, ranged spells and tricks that move him around the arena. The fight is less about raw damage and more about staying alive while you chip him down.
- Do not chase him blindly. Wait for him to settle, then attack.
- Watch for marked areas and lines on the floor. His big spells always warn you first.
- Kill any summoned helpers before they surround you.
- In the final chase, keep moving forward with the quest marker. Elias is weaker at this point, and the danger is mostly the enemies around him.

Tips for this part
- Get the horse in Act 4. Hawezar is big and swampy. Riding saves a lot of time.
- Do both Act 5 branches before you rest. The act only moves on when both are done, so keep them close together so you remember the story.
- Carry poison resistance if you can. Hawezar has many poison enemies. Do not obsess over it, but do not ignore it either.
- Keep your gear current. Enemies here hit harder than in the first three acts. Check your item power and upgrade weak slots at the blacksmith.
My take
Act 4 felt short to me, but Andariel made up for it. Hawezar is the creepiest region in the game, and I like how Act 5 lets you choose your path for a while. Elias was a bit of a slog the first time, mostly because I kept chasing him into bad spots. How did you find Hawezar, creepy or just annoying?
FAQ
How do I unlock the mount in Diablo 4?
Finish Acts 1 to 3. At the start of Act 4, the quest Mount: Donan's Favor appears. Speak with Donan in the Cathedral of Light in Kyovashad, then with the stable master, who gives you a free horse.
How many quests are in Act 4?
Six: Prying the Eye, A Master's Touch, Lost Arts, A Meeting of the Minds, Anguish Incarnate and Eye of the Storm.
Which branch should I do first in Act 5?
It does not matter. You must finish both Secrets of the Zakarum and Tainted Flesh before the story moves on.
How do I beat Andariel in the campaign?
Keep moving, leave her ground effects at once, kill anything she summons, and only attack in the gaps between her moves. The campaign fight is much easier than the endgame version you will read about online.
