It's official: The Elder Scrolls VI is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda revealed the name on November 3, 2026, in a short teaser for its 40th anniversary, eight years after the game was first announced. Here's everything we know about Skyrim's successor, and everything we still don't.

What the teaser shows

There's no gameplay. The short teaser opens on a vast desert, where a gust of wind uncovers an ancient scroll buried in the sand, and then the Sentinel logo appears. The closing quote is attributed to a Moth Priest serving the High Queen of Hammerfell. Bethesda added that "it'll be some time before we're ready to share more."

Is it set in Hammerfell?

Almost certainly. Sentinel is a major port city and kingdom in Hammerfell, the desert province of the Redguards, west of Skyrim. A desert teaser, a city name as the title and a quote from Hammerfell's royal court all point the same way. Bethesda just hasn't said the word yet.

Was the leak right?

Yes. In late October, The Verge's Tom Warren reported that the game would be called Sentinel and set in Hammerfell, with a reveal possibly around Skyrim's 15th anniversary on November 11. The name came a week earlier than that, on Bethesda's 40th birthday. Our original report is here: The Elder Scrolls 6 is called Sentinel.

When will it come out?

No date or window yet. Bethesda's last big game, Starfield, was revealed with a release date years ahead, and the studio has been careful not to promise anything for Sentinel. Treat any date you see online as a rumor until Bethesda or Xbox announces it.

How to get ready

My take

A name and a desert are not much after eight years, but they're the first real confirmation that The Elder Scrolls VI is moving forward. Hammerfell is a great choice: a desert kingdom of swordmasters is something the series has never fully explored. Now we wait, again.
