Battletome: Khazalite Holds is the new army book for Age of Sigmar's newest duardin faction, and it replaces the old Fyreslayers book too. Here's what's inside, the difference between the regular book and the limited edition, when you can order it, and what to buy first if you're starting the army.

Like every Age of Sigmar battletome, the book is the complete guide to the army:

  • Lore: the history of the Khazalite Holds, their karaks (mountain strongholds) and their war against the enemies of the duardin.
  • Artwork and miniature showcases of the whole range.
  • Full rules: the faction's battle traits, heroic traits, artefacts, spell lore (the Runewright's runes) and army formations.
  • Warscrolls for every unit, from High Kyng Valankrom on his War Throne to Clanshields, Clangunners and the Oathkeeper Cannon.
  • Painting guides and colour schemes for the different holds.

Why Fyreslayers players need it too

This is the big change. The Khazalite Holds absorb the Fyreslayers, so there's no separate Fyreslayers battletome any more. Games Workshop has already swapped the old Fyreslayers keyword for Khazalite Holds and Grimmdron in its rules. If you play Fyreslayers, this is now your book. See our Khazalite Holds rules update for what changed.

Which Fyreslayers units move to Legends

Not every Fyreslayers unit makes it into the new book. Games Workshop says these seven entries move to Warhammer Legends:

  • Vulkite Berzerkers
  • Auric Runemaster
  • Battlesmith
  • Doomseeker
  • Grimwrath Berzerker
  • Magmic Battleforge (terrain)
  • Magmic Invocations

They stay tournament legal for one year after the new book releases, and Games Workshop has published a free supplement on Warhammer Community with their rules. Staying in the book: the Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter (on foot and on Magmadroth), Auric Flamekeeper, Grimhold Exile, Vulkyn Flameseekers, Auric Hearthguard, Hearthguard Berzerkers and the new Ormyr and Ashtongue. A pure Fyreslayers army is still possible through the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown.

Not every veteran is happy. Longtime Fyreslayers players on Reddit say losing seven entries for one new foot hero feels like a bad trade, so if you love Vulkite Berzerkers, use them while they're still legal.

Regular battletome vs limited edition

  • Regular battletome: the standard hardback, available to pre-order from November 7.
  • Limited edition: an exclusive alternate cover with gold foil and gilt page edges, plus a box of 53 warscroll cards. It came only in the Khazalite Holds Army Set ($210, 15 miniatures), which went on pre-order in October and is now sold out at Games Workshop. Some independent stores may still have one.

The rules are the same in both, so the regular book is all you need to play.
