The Elder Scrolls VI is reportedly called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, it's set in Hammerfell, and the name could be officially revealed as soon as November, possibly on November 11, Skyrim's 15th anniversary. That's according to a report from The Verge's Tom Warren. Bethesda and Microsoft haven't confirmed it yet. Here's what's reported, and what's still unknown.

What the report says

  • Title: sources familiar with Bethesda's plans told Warren the game will be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
  • Setting: the game is reportedly set in Hammerfell, the desert province of the Redguards. Sentinel is also the name of one of Hammerfell's major cities.
  • Story: Warren reports that Sentinel will be the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the ancient artifacts the series is named after.
  • Reveal timing: an announcement could come in November, possibly on November 11, the 15th anniversary of Skyrim's release.
  • What to expect: Warren expects only the name, not gameplay, platforms or a release date.

Fans had already guessed the name: a recent post by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma included eight asterisks, which many read as "Sentinel", according to coverage of the report.

What's not confirmed

  • Bethesda and Microsoft haven't commented, so treat the name and setting as reported, not official.
  • There's no release date or platform list. Bethesda first teased The Elder Scrolls VI with a short trailer in June 2018, and has shared very little since.

How to get ready

If the wait is getting to you, Skyrim's 15th anniversary is a good excuse to go back. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition bundles the game with all three expansions and the Creation Club content, and it's on PS5, Xbox, PC and Switch. New or coming back after years away? My take

Hammerfell has been the fan favourite for years, so if this report is right, a lot of people just got the setting they wanted. A name reveal on Skyrim's birthday would be a smart move, but don't expect a release date yet: after the long silence since 2018, Bethesda seems to be taking its time. Are you hoping for Hammerfell?
