Fall 2026 anime at a glance

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (Netflix)

The one gamers have been waiting for. CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger are back, and all 10 episodes landed on Netflix on October 20. It's a standalone story with a new cast, so you don't need to have seen the first season, though you should, because it's great. Kai Ikarashi directs and Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner.

Gamers get a bonus: CD Projekt Red released a free Cyberpunk 2077 "Edgerunners 2" update (2.5) on October 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a Switch 2 version to follow. If the show pulls you back into Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 is the place to go.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run (Netflix)

Steel Ball Run, the arc fans have wanted animated for years, is streaming on Netflix with new episodes every Friday. It's a cross-country horse race through an alternate 1890s America, and it's one of the most loved parts of the manga.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 (Crunchyroll)

Maomao is back. The mystery series about a sharp-tongued palace apothecary returned on October 2, weekly on Crunchyroll. If you haven't started, both earlier seasons are on Crunchyroll too.

Black Clover Season 2 (Crunchyroll)

Asta and the Black Bulls finally return for a new TV season, weekly on Crunchyroll. It picks up the story years after the first series ended, so it's a good time to catch up. Full details: Black Clover Season 2 guide.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix)

The newest Dragon Ball series premiered October 11 in One Piece's old Fuji TV timeslot, with new episodes weekly. Need to catch up first? See our Dragon Ball watch order.

Also worth watching

• Blue Box Season 2 (Netflix): the sports romance continues, weekly from October 4.
• Ranma 1/2 Season 3 (Netflix): the remake keeps going, exclusive to Netflix right after its Japanese broadcast.
• Magic Knight Rayearth (Crunchyroll): a new adaptation of the CLAMP classic, from October 7.
• Aoashi Season 2 (Crunchyroll): the football (soccer) series is back.
• Tokyo Revengers: Three Deities Arc: listed as a Disney+ exclusive by one guide; check Disney+ in your country.

Which service do you need?

• Netflix if you want Edgerunners 2, JoJo, Blue Box and Ranma.
• Crunchyroll for most weekly simulcasts: Apothecary Diaries, Black Clover, Rayearth, Aoashi and many more.
• Both offer cheaper ad-supported plans, so you can try one for a month during the season.

My take

If you only watch one thing this season and you're a gamer, make it Edgerunners 2: binge it in a weekend, then jump back into Cyberpunk 2077 with the new update. For a weekly habit, The Apothecary Diaries and Steel Ball Run are the two everyone is talking about.
