Digital or physical: which should you buy?

Digital ($59.99) is $10 cheaper, you can pre-load it, and it unlocks the moment the game launches. It is the best pick if you want to play tonight.

Physical ($69.99) costs more, but you can lend, trade or resell it, and it looks great on a shelf. Some retailers ran $10 pre-order discounts, but most of those end at launch. Physical pre-orders also sold out at some stores ahead of release, so check stock before you head out.

Where to buy Ocarina of Time on Switch 2

  • Amazon: physical copies sold out during pre-orders; restocks often appear around launch week. Check Amazon stock.
  • Nintendo eShop: the digital version at $59.99, with pre-load.
  • Best Buy, Target and GameStop: physical copies at $69.99, with in-store pickup where stock allows.

Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 and Pro Controller

Nintendo released Zelda-themed hardware for the series' 40th anniversary, revealed in the same Direct as the remake.

ItemUS price
Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console$519.99
Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controller$99.99
Pro Controller with display stand$109.99
Zelda carrying case$39.99

Know before you buy: the themed console does not include Ocarina of Time, so you pay the extra for the look. Pre-orders sold out within minutes, so restocks are the only way to get one now. Watch for the Zelda Pro Controller on Amazon. If you just want to play, a standard Nintendo Switch 2 runs the game exactly the same.

Accessories worth buying with the game

1. A microSD Express card

Ocarina of Time takes about 24.5 GB, and Switch 2 games keep getting bigger. The Switch 2 only accepts microSD Express cards, not old microSD cards. A 256 GB card from Samsung or SanDisk (both licensed for Switch 2) is the sweet spot. See microSD Express cards on Amazon.

2. A Pro Controller

The remake adds full camera control, a jump button and a dash, and long Zelda sessions are much more comfortable on a full controller than on Joy-Con. Switch 2 Pro Controller on Amazon.

3. A screen protector and case

If you play handheld, a tempered-glass screen protector and a carrying case protect your console for a few dollars. See Switch 2 cases and protectors.
