The headline: restored Anniversary Editions
Seven of the 25 games got real work, not just a quick port. EA calls them Anniversary Editions: Road Rash and six Wing Commander games.

The six restored Wing Commander games are Wing Commander I, II, III, IV, Prophecy and Privateer 2.
The big deal for Wing Commander fans is the video. The later Wing Commander games were famous for their full-motion video cutscenes with real actors, a huge thing in the 90s. EA says it tracked down the original master footage and restored more than 1,500 cinematic scenes, so they should look far better than the blurry, compressed versions people remember.
EA also says the team worked with the fan community during the restoration and built popular fan mods into the official versions. That's a nice move: the people who kept these games alive for 30 years get credit in the final product.

Free upgrade if you already own them
If you already own the Wing Commander games digitally on GOG or the EA App, you get the matching Anniversary Edition for free on that same platform. No need to buy them again.
Road Rash: 30th Anniversary Edition

Road Rash is the motorbike racer where you punch, kick and chain-whip other riders at full speed. The 30th Anniversary Edition brings the classic PC version back with the same restoration treatment as Wing Commander.

The other 18 classics
The rest of the batch is a trip through PC gaming history:
- The Ultima series: nine mainline Ultima games, the RPGs that helped invent the genre.
- Ultima Underworld and its sequel, early first-person dungeon crawlers that influenced games like System Shock and Deus Ex.
- Wing Commander: Privateer, the open-ended space trading and combat game many fans still call the best of the series, plus Wing Commander Academy and Wing Commander Armada.
- Strike Commander, the 90s flight sim.
- Theme Hospital, the much-loved, very silly hospital management game.
- Both Crusader games, the isometric action shooters.
Each of these sells for $4.99. Several sources say this is the first time most of them have been on Steam at all, so if you only buy PC games there, this is your first easy chance to grab them.

Why this matters
A lot of old PC games are stuck in legal limbo or simply disappear from sale. Getting 25 of them back on the biggest PC store, with seven of them properly restored, is good news for game preservation, and it makes these classics easy to try for people who weren't around in the 90s.
It also follows earlier EA moves to put classics like Command & Conquer, Dungeon Keeper and Populous back on Steam. EA seems happy to keep digging through its back catalogue, which raises a fun question: what comes next?

Want the full 90s experience?
Wing Commander and Strike Commander were made for a joystick. If you want to fly them properly, a flight stick for PC makes a huge difference, and it works with modern space and flight games too. For Theme Hospital and Ultima, a mouse and a cup of coffee are all you need.
My take
Restoring the original Wing Commander video from the master footage is the kind of care old games rarely get. At $4.99 to $9.99, this is an easy recommendation if you have any nostalgia for 90s PC gaming, and a cheap history lesson if you don't. If you only pick one, make it Wing Commander: Privateer or Theme Hospital: both still hold up.
