Perturabo, the Lord of Iron, was Primarch of the Iron Warriors: a bitter genius of siegecraft who felt used and unloved by his father, joined Horus out of resentment, and now rules the daemon world of Medrengard as a daemon prince of Chaos.

Who is Perturabo?
Perturabo was perhaps the most brilliant mind among the Primarchs. He was a mathematician, an engineer, an architect and an inventor who could have built wonders. Instead, his father used him as a hammer, sending the Iron Warriors on the grimmest siege after siege. Perturabo came to feel that no one valued him. That bitterness, more than any daemon's whisper, drove him to betray the Emperor.
Olympia: the tyrant's son
Perturabo's capsule landed on Olympia, a world of mountains and fortified city-states locked in constant war. He was found and adopted by Dammekos, the tyrant of the city of Lochos. The boy's genius was obvious: he designed weapons, fortresses and machines far beyond anything Olympia had seen. He dreamed of the stars, but Dammekos used his gifts for war. Eventually Perturabo took power himself and conquered Olympia's other cities.
Found by the Emperor
When the Emperor came, Perturabo joined him and took command of the IV Legion, the Iron Warriors. The Legion was already known for its toughness. Under Perturabo, it became the best at siege warfare in the Imperium: digging trenches, building artillery lines and grinding down fortresses no one else could crack.
The Iron Warriors
The Iron Warriors were cold, grim and efficient. They did not chase glory; they simply did the job, whatever the cost. Their Primarch led from the command bunker as often as from the front line, planning battles like equations. Among his commanders were the senior officers known as the Trident, including the veteran Forrix. Perturabo was a harsh master. When one of his units broke, he ordered decimation, executing one in ten of his own warriors.
The Great Crusade: sieges and resentment
Perturabo felt the Iron Warriors were always given the worst jobs. Other Legions won glory in daring attacks while his sons spent years in the mud, holding conquered worlds or breaking fortresses. Worse, his garrisons were spread thin across the galaxy, slowly bleeding the Legion. When Rogal Dorn openly claimed his Imperial Fists could hold any fortress better than the Iron Warriors could break it, Perturabo never forgave him.
The fall of Olympia
While Perturabo was away fighting, Olympia rose up against Imperial rule. He returned and crushed the rebellion without mercy. Millions died, and the world he had once loved was ruined. Racked with guilt and fury, he turned more and more to Horus, who seemed to understand and value him. The Olympia massacre made Perturabo a criminal in the eyes of the Imperium, and it pushed him over the edge.
The Horus Heresy
Perturabo sided with Horus. At the Drop Site Massacre on Isstvan V, the Iron Warriors turned their guns on the loyal Legions. During the Heresy, Perturabo fought the Imperial Fists at Phall, joined Fulgrim on the hunt for a secret weapon in the Angel Exterminatus campaign, and was betrayed by Fulgrim on Iydris. On Terra, he designed and led much of the traitors' assault on the walls Dorn had built, a duel of builder against builder.
The Siege of Terra
The Siege was Perturabo's masterpiece. His artillery shattered the Palace's defences and his tactics broke wall after wall. Yet he grew disgusted with Horus and with the Chaos Gods meddling in his war. As the Siege reached its end, he withdrew the Iron Warriors, unwilling to die for a cause he no longer believed in.
The Iron Cage
After the Heresy, Perturabo fled with Dorn's Imperial Fists hunting him. He led them into a trap on a fortress world, a siege the Imperial Fists called the Iron Cage. For weeks the Fists threw themselves at Perturabo's defences and lost thousands of warriors. Only when Guilliman arrived did the trap break, and Perturabo escaped into the Eye of Terror.
Daemon prince of Medrengard
In the Eye of Terror, Perturabo became a daemon prince of Chaos Undivided. He rules Medrengard, a daemon world of endless fortresses and factories, where he works on ever greater engines of war. He rarely leaves, but his Iron Warriors still raid the Imperium, besieging worlds and building fortresses for Chaos.
The Iron Warriors today
The Iron Warriors remain one of the most dangerous traitor Legions. They are masters of siege warfare, daemon engines and heavy armour. They show little love for the Chaos Gods, treating them as tools. The Iron Warriors' sieges of worlds like Hydra Cordatus are famous in Black Library fiction.
Perturabo and his brothers
Perturabo hated Rogal Dorn more than any foe. He was drawn to Horus, who gave him the respect he craved, and he trusted Fulgrim until Fulgrim betrayed him. He looked down on most of his brothers as emotional and foolish. He is the Primarch most defined by what he believed he deserved and never received.
What kind of man is Perturabo?
He is brilliant, cold and deeply wounded. He holds grudges forever and sees affection as weakness. Yet he also loved art, science and building, and a gentler life might have made him one of the greatest minds in human history. His story is a warning about what happens when talent is wasted and resentment is left to grow.
