A warning about older guides: Grimgor's start position has moved more than once. Guides written before Update 3.0 put him at Sabre Mountain, and Warhammer II guides put him at Black Crag. This page follows the current start. As always, patches change numbers, so trust your tooltips.

Who is Grimgor?

Grimgor is the biggest, meanest Black Orc warboss there is. He wants one thing: a good fight. His campaign is simple to understand. Find the strongest enemy nearby, smash it, and keep moving. Greenskins are forgiving because they are cheap, numerous and hit hard, but they break if you let morale slip.

Start position: Gash Kadrak

  • You start at Eagle Eyries in Gash Kadrak, in the northern Mountains of Mourn. Update 3.0 moved you here from Sabre Mountain.
  • Your first enemy is the minor faction Fulg, right next to you.
  • The Mountains of Mourn are home to the Ogre Kingdoms. There are plenty of Ogres to fight, or to make peace with.
  • Kholek Suneater and his Chaos forces are a big early danger in this part of the world.
  • Other Greenskin lords, such as Azhag the Slaughterer and Skarsnik, are far to the west.

The first 20 turns

  1. Turn 1: Recruit with Grimgor and attack Fulg. Wiping out your starting enemy fast gives you room to grow.
  2. Turns 2 to 6: Take Fulg's settlements and finish the province. Repair and upgrade the main building in each one.
  3. Turns 6 to 12: Decide on the Ogres. You can fight them one by one, or sign non-aggression pacts with some so you only fight on one front. Fighting nearby factions is good for Grimgor, but fighting all of them at once is not.
  4. Turns 12 to 20: Raise a second army. Watch for Kholek. If he comes for you, fight him near your own settlements, with full health and a full army.

Keep Grimgor fighting. A Greenskin army that sits still loses its edge, which brings us to the main mechanic.

Key mechanics

Fightiness

Every Greenskin army has a Fightiness rating. It rises when the army fights and raids, and it falls when the army sits around or loses. Keep your armies busy and Fightiness stays high.

Waaagh!

When Fightiness is high enough, you can call a Waaagh!. This spawns an allied Greenskin army that joins your lord and charges at a target settlement you pick. It is a free extra army for the war. Use it on a big target you can't crack alone. Each Greenskin Legendary Lord also has his own twist on the Waaagh!; read Grimgor's tooltip in your version to see what his adds.

Scrap

Scrap is a Greenskin currency that you collect through fighting. You spend it on upgrades for your units, so they hit harder or last longer. Spend it on the units you use most, like your Black Orcs and Orc Boyz.

Climate and settlements

Greenskins live happily in mountains and badlands. Check the climate of a settlement before you keep it. Unpleasant climates bring penalties, so you may prefer to sack or raze some places instead.

Who to fight and who to ally

  • Fight: Fulg first, then the nearest Ogres and any Chaos force that comes south. Grimgor wants a steady stream of battles.
  • Ally or pact: some Ogre tribes and other Greenskin factions. Guides note Grimgor can make friends with many of his neighbours, and that lets you pick your fights.
  • Later: push toward Grand Cathay and back west toward the Badlands. Settlements such as Black Crag often appear in Greenskin objectives.

Units to build

  • Early: Orc Boyz as your main line, Orc Arrer Boyz or Goblin archers for ranged support, and Boar Boyz for flanking.
  • Core of a Grimgor army: Black Orcs. They are tough, disciplined by Orc standards and great at grinding down elite enemies.
  • Monsters: Trolls are cheap and strong early. Later, Giants and Arachnarok Spiders give you heavy hitters.
  • Artillery: Rock Lobbers and Doom Divers soften up enemy lines and garrisons.
  • Heroes: a Goblin Great Shaman for magic, and a Goblin Big Boss to help run your armies.

Watch your army's leadership. Greenskins can break when things go badly, so keep Grimgor close to your main line.

Victory conditions

Like every Immortal Empires faction, Grimgor has a short victory and a long victory. Open the victory conditions panel to see the exact goals in your version. Expect them to ask you to hold key Greenskin settlements and to defeat major enemy factions. A domination victory is also possible if you keep conquering.

Tips for this part

  • Ignore old guides that start you at Black Crag or Sabre Mountain. Your start is Eagle Eyries.
  • Never let your armies sit idle for long. Fightiness drops and so does your power.
  • Call the Waaagh! before a siege, not after. The extra army makes walls much easier.
  • Use non-aggression pacts with some Ogres so you only fight one war at a time.
  • Save up Scrap for Black Orcs and other units you keep for the whole campaign.

My take

Grimgor is the most fun I've had just smashing things in Immortal Empires. You don't need clever plans; you need a steady line of fights. The mountain start feels very different from the old Black Crag one, and the Ogres next door give you plenty to grind on. Did you go to war with the Ogres or make friends?

FAQ

Where does Grimgor start in Immortal Empires?

At Eagle Eyries in Gash Kadrak, in the Mountains of Mourn. Update 3.0 moved him there.

How do I call a Waaagh! as Grimgor?

Fight and raid to raise your army's Fightiness. When the bar is full, you can call a Waaagh! and pick a target settlement.

Who is Grimgor's first enemy?

The minor faction Fulg, next to your starting settlement.

Is Grimgor good for beginners?

He is fairly simple: fight a lot and keep moving. Greenskin morale and the busy neighbourhood make him a bit harder than Kislev or Cathay, but he is a fine second campaign.
