Classic metal Wood Elves are back. Games Workshop is bringing back a batch of old-school Wood Elf miniatures for Warhammer: The Old World through its Made to Order service: Dryads, Treemen, a Treeman Ancient, Wardancers, a Wardancer Champion and a Shadowdancer. If you've wanted the sculpts many veterans grew up with, this is the moment.

Published November 6, 2026, the day Warhammer Community announced the models.

The forest spirits

The Dryads are the angry tree spirits of Athel Loren, the enchanted forest the Wood Elves call home. The forest doesn't like visitors, and the Dryads are a big reason why. This set gives you a full unit of eight, each with its own pose, which is exactly the kind of variety old metal kits were loved for.

Two classic metal Treemen, one with pale birch bark and one with dark bark and a snarling face

The two Treemen are big, gnarled monsters: spirits fused with living wood. One has pale birch-style bark, the other a dark trunk and a nasty grin, so they look great side by side.

The Treeman Ancient is the oldest and grumpiest of the lot. These giants sleep most of the time and only wake when the forest is in real danger, so if one shows up across the table, your opponent has clearly made a mistake.

The dancers of Loec

Wardancers serve Loec, the elven trickster god. In peacetime they keep the history of Athel Loren alive through song and dance. In battle, the same moves turn into a whirl of twin blades. These are the iconic wild-haired, red-and-green Wardancers that defined the Wood Elves for a generation.

The Wardancer Champion leads the troupe, and the Shadowdancer is the mysterious one: a servant of Loec who knows the hidden paths of the forest, appears out of nowhere and confuses enemies with illusions. It's a lovely, dynamic sculpt for a centrepiece hero.

How Made to Order works

  • Limited window: you can only order during a short window, usually about a week. Once it closes, the models are gone again, often for years.
  • Cast after you order: the models are made after the window closes, so shipping usually takes up to 180 days. Don't plan on painting them for Christmas.
  • Where: the Made to Order section of the Warhammer webstore.

We'll add the exact dates and prices to this article as soon as they're on the store.

Starting a Wood Elf army?

These classics are perfect for a themed army or a nostalgia project, but most players build the core of their force from the current plastic range. A Wood Elf Realms box is the easiest way in, and the Warhammer: The Old World rulebook has everything you need to play. Metal models also love a good pin vise for pinning: the Treemen's heavy arms hold much better with a metal pin.

My take

Classic Wardancers and Treemen are pure nostalgia, and seeing them back in metal is a treat. If you play Wood Elves in The Old World, or just want a few beautiful old sculpts to paint, keep an eye on the order window, because these won't be around for long. Which one would you grab first: the Treeman Ancient or the Shadowdancer?
