Five weeks to go. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV launches on December 3, 2026, and for anyone who grew up on the original Dawn of War, this is the one we've been waiting for: a big, classic-style Warhammer 40K real-time strategy game with four armies, four campaigns and the Adeptus Mechanicus finally joining the series. Here's everything we know so far.

The key facts

  • Early access: the Commander Edition unlocks the game three days early, on November 30.

Four factions

  • Space Marines, the heart of the series since the very first game.
  • Orks, loud, green and always ready for a scrap.
  • Necrons, the ancient machine army.
  • Adeptus Mechanicus, making their debut as a playable faction in the Dawn of War series.

Can't wait? Warm up with the original

If you want to get back into the series before December 3, the original game is the perfect warm-up. Our Dawn of War: Definitive Edition beginner guide covers the factions, the campaigns and the basics in a few minutes.

My take

Dawn of War is the series that got a lot of us into Warhammer in the first place, so a proper new entry with Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and, finally, the Adeptus Mechanicus is a big deal. The delay to December hurt, but if it means a more polished launch, it's worth it. Which faction are you playing first?
