Games Workshop released the Kill Team October 2026 update on Wednesday, October 28. It's mostly a clean-up: one new core rule for Vantage terrain, a single real balance change to the Dominate tac op, and a long list of wording fixes across the kill teams. We went through every official update log GW published today and listed only what's marked for October.

Everything here comes from GW's official October 2026 update logs (core rules, approved ops, universal equipment and team rules). GW colour-codes its changes: blue means a clarification or wording fix, and magenta means a balance change. This month, only one change is magenta.

Core rules and terrain

Vantage terrain: ramparts can now block shots from below

This is the change that affects every kill team. GW added a new paragraph to the Vantage rules: when you target an operative on Vantage terrain from below, a rampart that's above the targeting line and within the target's control range now counts as intervening for cover.

GW's two examples explain it best. If the Heavy terrain the targeting lines pass through isn't within the target's control range, the target only gets Light cover from the Vantage and rampart. If the Heavy terrain rampart is above the targeting line and within the target's control range, the target is in Heavy cover.

Tomb World walls

According to Warhammer Community, Killzone: Tomb World's wall rules used to have special exceptions for who was in cover next to walls, such as pillars in the middle of wall segments not counting as intervening. Those rules have been reworded. The republished Tomb World document now states that for cover and obscured, only the corners and ends of Wall terrain can intervene, unless the active operative has passed it.

Fight action clarified

The Fight action's Resolve Attack Dice step now says that when one operative in the fight is incapacitated, the action ends, and then any incapacitated operatives are removed.

Three new core rules FAQs

  • If a rule interrupts or cancels your attempt to activate a friendly operative (for example the Exaction Squad's Execution Order), you give that operative its order after the rule resolves.
  • A rule that takes effect "after an activation" can trigger even after the last activation of the turning point.
  • If an operative is injured during an interruption while performing a move action, its move allowance for that action is not reduced.
  • A rule that interrupts "after an action" can trigger during a double action (like the Kommandos Dakka Boy's Dakka Dash), and even after the last action of an activation.

Approved Ops: the one balance change

  • Dominate (Seek & Destroy): at the end of the third and fourth turning points, you can now only remove Dominate tokens to score from friendly operatives that are in the killzone and not incapacitated. This is the only change GW marked in magenta this month.
  • Sweep & Clear (Seek & Destroy): reworded so it's clearer when a marker is swept, and the Clear scoring now refers to the centre or your opponent's objective marker.

The Breach fix: 11 kill teams

Breach now gets the same leniency as Operate Hatch, for Killzone: Tomb World. Image: Warhammer Community

Several slow or restricted operatives already had an exception for the Operate Hatch action. Now Breach is excepted too, so these operatives treat Breach the same way as Operate Hatch. Warhammer Community says this gives them similar leniency in Killzone: Tomb World.

  • Fellgor Ravagers: Frenzy faction rule, and the Mangler's Berserker rule.
  • Ratlings: the Bullgryn and Ogryn's Slow-witted rule.
  • Blooded: the Ogryn's Slow-witted rule.
  • Chaos Cult: the Mutant's Accursed Mutant rule and the Torment's Accursed Torment rule.
  • Legionaries: the Anointed's Unleash Daemon rule.
  • Inquisitorial Agents: the Intimidating Presence firefight ploy.
  • Gellerpox Infected: the Nightmare Hulks faction rule (still excluding Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed).
  • Hunter Clade: the Scrapcode Overload firefight ploy.
  • Exaction Squad: the Execution Order firefight ploy now triggers when an enemy performs a mission action other than Breach and Operate Hatch.
  • Vespid Stingwings: the Communion faction rule.

Team-by-team changes

Brood Brothers

The Vox-operator's Jam action now lasts until your opponent has completed the activation of a number of enemy operatives equal to the D6 result. It also can't be performed while within control range of an enemy operative or more than once per turning point.

Deathwatch

The Disruptor's Advanced Omni-scrambler uses the same "completed the activation" wording. New FAQ: an operative that gains a Terrorchem token from the Nemesis Claw Fearmonger's Poison Objective action can't remove it with the Sanctus-V Bioscryer Cuffs before taking damage.

Void-Dancer Troupe

The Shadowseer's Fog of Dreams action now lasts until your opponent has completed the activation of a number of enemy operatives equal to the D6 result, and can't be performed within control range of an enemy operative or more than once per turning point. It's the same fix as the Brood Brothers' Jam.

Phobos Strike Team

The Omni-scrambler faction rule now ends once your opponent has completed the activation of a number of enemy operatives equal to the number of friendly Infiltrator operatives in the killzone when the strategic gambit was used.

Inquisitorial Agents

Besides the Breach fix above, the Denounce strategy ploy now uses the "completed the activation" wording, with a D3.

Hand of the Archon

Merciless Sadists and Prey on the Wounded now apply against an enemy operative that was wounded at the start of the action.

Nemesis Claw

The Black Hunt strategy ploy now applies against an enemy operative that was wounded at the start of the action, the same fix as Hand of the Archon. New FAQ: when the Ventrilokar's Disconcerting Mimicry makes an enemy operative Dash, you can't apply your opponent's rules to that Dash (like a Vespid Stingwing's Fly).

Vespid Stingwings

Besides the Breach fix, the Strain Leader's Communion Helm now selects one other friendly Vespid Stingwing operative within 3". New FAQ: the Ocelli firefight ploy does not affect targeting lines.

Hernkyn Yaegirs

You can't use the Stalwart Defence firefight ploy in an activation in which you've interrupted with the Guard action, or vice versa.

Pathfinders

The Markerlight action now says an enemy operative can have a maximum of five of your Markerlight tokens.

Canoptek Circle

The Tomb Crawler's Dimensional Banishment weapon rule no longer requires that the target wasn't incapacitated before you roll 2D6.

XV26 Stealth Battlesuits

The Neutraliser's Multispectrum Sensor Package now triggers when your opponent would activate an enemy operative within 8". New FAQ: an operative using the Engage Jetpack firefight ploy does not spend an extra 1" to cross razor wire.

Blooded

Besides the Ogryn Breach fix, the Thug's Tough rule now notes it isn't cumulative with the Fortified Stimm rule (see Corpseman).

Chaos Cult

Besides the two Breach fixes, a new FAQ explains what to do when a mutating operative's new miniature doesn't fit: move friendly operatives the minimum distance needed, and if there's still no room, that operative can't be selected to mutate.

Exodite Dragon Masters

The Sprint action can't be performed with a Conceal order if it would end within control range of an enemy operative. The team also gets 13 new FAQs, mostly about how Mounted operatives move, pivot, use cover and interact with Ceiling terrain, Hatchways and Breaches.

FAQ-only updates

  • Plague Marines: when the Bombardier's Blight Grenades hit several targets, only change the Damage stat against the operatives that have your Poison tokens.
  • Raveners: a Tremorscythe can't interrupt with Subterranean Ambush if the enemy operative is removed and set up (for example a Vespid Stingwing's Fly).
  • Celestian Insidiants: an operative within range of a Celestian Insidiant can't benefit from, be selected for or use any Psychic rule, even from an operative outside that range.
  • Novitiates: the same Psychic rule FAQ, for operatives within 6" of a Condemnor (Null Rod rule).
  • Imperial Navy Breachers: you can pick a friendly operative that can't be activated as the second operative of a Breach and Clear to use Overwhelm Target on the first one. It still uses your Breach and Clear for that turning point.
  • Universal equipment: an operative can't keep the ladder's climbing bonus once the ladder is no longer within its control range during the climb.

A note on Goremongers

Warhammer Community lists the Goremongers among this month's minor updates, but the newest entry in their update log is dated August 2026. If you play them, check the full document. The Spectre Squad document was also republished, with its latest log entry from August 2026.

Where to download

All of these documents are free on the Kill Team downloads page at Warhammer Community: the core rules update log, approved ops update log, universal equipment and every team's rules.

My take

As a 40K player, I like updates like this one: almost no balance swings, just a lot of tidying up. The Vantage rampart rule will matter most on the table, so it's worth showing those two diagrams to your opponent before your next game. Which change affects your kill team the most?
